Board of Directors

Rivers Co-op Markets Board of Directors

The Board of Directors provides strategic leadership on behalf of members and is responsible for the co-op’s long-term direction and performance. Working within a policy governance model, the Board sets goals, establishes policies, ensures financial oversight, and hires and evaluates the CEO, who leads daily operations.

The Board does not manage store-level decisions. Its focus is on governance, guiding the co-op’s future in alignment with cooperative principles, upholding its mission, and recommending updates to the co-op’s articles and bylaws when needed.

Share Feedback With the Board

Have a question, suggestion, or concern about the overall direction of the co-op? Members are welcome to contact the Board of Directors to share feedback or learn more about board service and committee opportunities. While the Board does not manage day-to-day store operations, it is responsible for guiding the co-op’s long-term direction and performance.

Attend a Board Meeting

Member-owners are welcome to attend and observe monthly board meetings to learn more about how the co-op is governed. Meetings are typically held on the first Tuesday of each month. Attending a meeting is an easy way to stay informed and see cooperative governance in action.

Run for an Open Board Seat

One of the benefits of co-op membership is the opportunity to run for an open seat on the Board of Directors. Each October, members elect board members to serve three-year terms and help shape the co-op’s collective future. Board service is a meaningful way to support your community and provide leadership for the co-op. Unable to commit to full board service but still wish to serve? Volunteer on the board’s Audit Committee or take part in the Recruitment Committee’s board-slating process for new board candidates.
